Duske Fahrschule & Friendships with “famous” People

Well, having finally been able to vacuum – strange but true, and with the new TV in the home but not so hooked up that it works….Its time to look at why getting a Lebensmittel Sofortmasshen “or something like that” is mysteriously difficult.  Despite being happily American and earning money writing in English and feeling ignored by people who I tend to view as relatives “of the in-law/outlaw variety” – in truth they stay connected and help much more than many “sometime inlaws” but less than I had been led to believe…I have taken some actions to adjust to living in Germany.

One of these has been some lessons and some efforts to mingle with locals.  Considering how long I have lived here: about 14 months now, nearly 15 months, it seems like I should be having a much more active social life, but I have done at least a few things.  One of the practical ‘integration activities’ has been about working towards getting the German driving license.  I have already been incredibly slow about this and have no good explanation for why that is.  I have attended some lessons in a group and now feel more confident about what “brems” are.  I already knew, but had no idea that’s what to call them in German “auf Deutsch”.

Meanwhile, I have found a few people with whom I would like to have genuine close, mutual interpersonal relationships but feel exceptionally peculiar because of forces which could be perceived as inhibitive – like distance in location and perceived implications of perceived social differences.  Now I am not sure if I am more angry and sad about the jerks who want to prevent it from being able to actually occur or more annoyed with myself for having caused myself to want to be close with people who I only even know exist because they are “famous clerics from small Asiatic nations annexed by the Chinese.”  Anyway, its created a bizarre feeling of comfort and discomfort.

Subscribers & Unirondackers?

Well, here is a clip by an artist I was introduced to by a fellow UU.  It was one of those special times when one of the friends is actually a member of the opposite sex, not because we’re screwing each other in a clandestine romance, but actually even though we aren’t even trying to screw each other even though we don’t think the other one is too ugly or whatever.  Unless that was what it was but I didn’t even know it.  What really happened, was that Ben never showed me where the Rochester NY Unitarian or UU church was or brought me there, but we had worked at the same Summer camp and when I needed to complain about hurt feelings – which happened a lot, he would listen and would use me the same way.  Once we emotionally purged we would have some intellectual conversation.  He’s a computer man out on the West Coast last time I looked him up using the Internet.  He introduced me to the Peter Murphy solo version of the song Bela Lugosi’s Dead.  If you’re not a rocker, you may not like this one at all, but I do:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpz2AWu4PZg

New Literary Lunes Issue

Well, today I am happy to report that I am doing some work for a paying client and am able to announce a nonexclusive publication of a short story about a squirrel.  Sharbenau the Squirrel is one of the stories in this month’s Literary Lunes Magazine, available here:  http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/101323.  Sharbenau is not a normal squirrel – see how his tribe of squirrels figures this out.

For those looking for something to read this is good, although those seeking something completely different may not find this at all satisfying.

Hermes Delivery and Posture

It’s a quiet, peaceful day in a beatific village in Germany.  To some people, this means that conditions are ideal.  To others, this is a fate worse than death itself and the boredom is excruciating.  Its a way to make anyone feel as though he or she has lived ‘forever’.  You know how it is when 1 minute feels like 3 hours?  Well, if one makes a week feel like 1812 years, then after a few years anyone could feel ‘immortal’ but not necessarily in a good way.

Today, I have witnessed a delivery truck for a company that brought me a vacuum cleaner last week in the neighborhood.  Of course, now that I know the organization, I react to it differently.  Sad truth – it did not bring me  my next item today.

Posture:  although I think its nice that my generation was not caned or beaten senseless whenever our posture lapsed, I do see negative consequences:  I see that the posture of myself and of many in my generation is not as good as it would be if something other than caning had been done to discipline us all – myself included, into maintaining good posture.

By the way, that delivery truck is marked Hermes – as in the god.  This ties into a conversation I had with my son yesterday about how deity names have become brands.  It began when Sven realized that some problems were solved by “putting the Jesus Christ label onto” some ideas or even entities throughout history.  This led into how most Egyptian deity names are now publishing companies, whereas Nike is a shoe and Hermes – was the name on that delivery truck.  Thor has a novel out in Germany, as well as having had a movie last year and of course the comic book.  Now, there’s a god with a unique trend.  Anyways, is this JC’s fate?  2000 years from now, will He be worshipped throughout the world or is he going to be the brand name of an antibiotic ointment or a trend in blazers, or something like that?
